How to download EBSCO Ebooks
To download an ebook, you will need:
- Adobe Digital Editions: Follow the instructions below for installation on your computer.
- Personal EBSCO account (separate from your UR account). Follow these instructions to create your EBSCO account.
To checkout an ebook with the option to download it later:
- Sign in to EBSCO with your personal EBSCO account (not your UR account).
- Click the Download link for the ebook you would like to download.
- Select a Checkout period from the drop-down menu and click the Checkout & Download button. The ebook will be added to the Checkouts area of the folder.
- Select Close once the dialog box reads Success!. The ebook has been added to your account's Folder to be downloaded at a later time.
After you checkout and download your ebook:
- You may read your e-book in Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.
- You may choose to transfer your ebook to your Adobe Digital Editions-compatible ebook reader or app. Adobe provides instructions on how to transfer the e-book from computer to device.
- You may re-download your ebook from your My EBSCOhost account at any time during the checkout period.
Installing Adobe Digital Editions
A couple of our e-book packages require Adobe Digital Editions (ADE), a free extension to Adobe Acrobat Reader, to download them. To install and use ADE, follow these steps:
- Download Acrobat Reader, if not already installed.
- Download Adobe Digital Editions from Adobe's website.
- Create an Adobe ID and authorize your copy of ADE.
ADE is pre-installed on Library computers.
An Adobe ID is not necessary to read e-books on the library computers, but it is required to download ebooks to a personal device. If you are using ADE on your personal computer (not a Library or public computer), Adobe recommends authorizing ADE with an Adobe ID. Your Adobe ID is free and completely separate from your NetID or other UR accounts.
