Boatwright Memorial Library

Item Retrieval Requests

The main elevator leading to the Basement Level will be non-operational for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.

During this time and always, feel free to take advantage of the library's Item Retrieval Services to access the primary collection located on the Basement Level. The Item Retrieval Services include delivery of books, articles, and book chapters for items that the UR Libraries owns in print format for all UR Faculty, Staff, and Students.

Digitization Requests

If Course Reserve Scans or Digitization requests need to be converted to text and detectable by a screen reader, this service is available on request. Please do so by emailing library@richmond.edu or leaving a comment in your request form.

Proxy Borrowing

UR faculty and staff may designate active UR students or staff as proxies to borrow library materials in the faculty or staff member's name. If interested, please fill out the Proxy form on our website.

If you are a student who needs to designate a proxy to pickup requested library materials on your behalf, please provide their name when making the pickup appointment in Calendly. The Calendly link will be emailed to the borrowing user once their item request is accepted by the library. Let your proxy know they will need to bring some form of ID to pick up your items.

Interlibrary Loan Retrieval

Currently, we do not allow proxy accounts for ILLiad users. For item security and to ensure that you receive the items you need, users typically must pick up items in person at the Boatwright Information and Assistance Desk.

However, suppose you need another person to pick an item up on your behalf, such as a student administrative employee, colleague, or family member. In that case, you MUST receive approval ahead of time by emailing ill@richmond.edu with the name of the person who will be picking up your item. This must be resubmitted for each academic year. Items will not be released to the person picking up unless this name is on file for the current academic year.
