The Music Library has headphones that can be borrowed for in-library use, two hours at a time. They come with a small plug suitable for computer jacks, but an adaptor can be screwed on to accommodate the larger jacks on the library's audio equipment.
Student employees should never wear headphones/earbuds (ours or yours) while on duty, unless you have been given a work assignment that requires them.
Library patrons should not plug headphones into the stand-up computer stations. Offer them a laptop or direct them to a study room.
Students from local high schools (public or private) may borrow up to two items from the Music Library if they bring a note from their school librarian indicating that they have exhausted the resources of their own library. High school students are not issued cards, and they must bring a new note every time they want to borrow something. To add a high school student to Alma as a new user, look here

WHAT IS A HOLD?
If a library user wants something that is currently checked out to someone else, they can place a hold on it. It's like getting on a waiting list. With a hold, the user will be notified by email when the current borrower returns the item, which will then be held for them to pick up at the desk.
HOW TO PLACE A HOLD ON BEHALF OF A LIBRARY USER
1. Log into Alma with your Net ID and password
2. Find the search box at the top of the screen. Select "Physical Titles" and "Keywords" in the drop-down boxes. Then enter the title of the desired item and click the magnifying glass icon.
3. In the title record, find the three dots at the right of the screen.
4. Click the three dots and select “Request” from the drop-down box.
5. From the “Request Type” dropdown box, select “Patron Physical Item Request”
6. Put the cursor in the “Requester” box and scan the patron’s barcode
7. Select “Parsons Music Library” from the “Pickup At” drop-down box
8. Click SUBMIT
WHAT TO DO WHEN AN ITEM WITH A HOLD REQUEST IS RETURNED
When you scan in a returned item that has an active hold request, Alma will email the requester and it will also generate a "Resource Request Slip Letter."
1. Send the letter to the printer by choosing BKRLIBMFD.
2. Retrieve the letter, fold it in half lengthwise, and insert it into the book. Place the book on the HOLD shelf behind the desk.
3. Meanwhile, a pop-up window will open in Alma, telling you that the item's destination is the hold shelf. Just click OK
Doing homework during your Music Library shift is a privilege reserved for times when you have no other tasks, and you should never plan your class assignments around having "free" time at the desk. Students should attend to all pending library tasks (discharging items, reshelving, shelf reading, other assigned projects) BEFORE starting homework, and should periodically attend to new reshelving throughout their shifts. See the Shift Checklist for additional information. Under ordinary circumstances, nothing should be left in the to-be-shelved bins or carts at the end of a shift.
The circulation desk should be kept as uncluttered as possible. Do not spread your books, notebooks, etc., all over the work area. Personal files should be saved to Box or to a USB drive, not to the circulation computers' hard drives or desktops.
A student who consistently fails to complete library tasks in a timely manner will lose the privilege of doing homework during their shift, and if immediate improvement is not demonstrated, they will be subject to termination for poor job performance.

This Emergency Action Plan cannot cover every possible situation that might occur. Nevertheless, it is a training tool that can reduce the number of injuries or death if put into action as soon as a situation develops. Time is a critical factor in the management of a situation of this manner.
