Play Indexes

To find a specific play, search the library catalog for the author's last name plus one or more keywords from the title (ex: Williams and Streetcar).  If it doesn't turn up, use one of the indexes described below to determine where your play has been published.  If the library doesn't own it, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan (see the box to the left of this one).

  • Boatwright Library has print copies of Play Index, a multi-volume index to plays published in collections or periodicals (1949-2002).  Call number PN1625.A1 P53x
  • Earlier published plays can be found in the Cumulated Dramatic index, 1909-1949.  Call number PN1625.A1 C85x 1965

Search the website of the Samuel French licensing agency to identify plays with particular cast attributes, period settings, costume requirements, etc.  Note: this only covers plays licensed by Samuel French, and the scripts are not freely accessible online.
