Finding NGO & Think Tank Publications

There are many think tanks (research organizations) and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) that produce research and statistics on immigration. While many are non-partisan, they often have a specific mission or policy focus that you'll want to keep in mind as you read their publications.

Databases:

Search across reports from many different organizations.
e.g.: try searching for "immigration" and [country or city]

Search for journal articles, reports, and grey literature on topics related to the world's public affairs, public and social policies, international relations, and world politics. "PAIS" stands for "Public Affairs Information Service," and the content dates from the early 1900s-present. (ProQuest)

Search for ebooks, journal articles, policy briefs, reports, and case studies on topics related to international politics and policy. The content is written by scholars, research institutes, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and think-tanks. (Columbia University Press)

Look for sections called "Research," "Publications," "Analysis" or try searching the site. Some can also be browsed by country.

Migration Policy Insitute
The Migration Policy Institute is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to analysis of the movement of people worldwide.
Center for Immigration Studies
The Center for Immigration Studies is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit, research organization that provides immigration policymakers, the academic community, news media, and concerned citizens with reliable information about the social, economic, environmental, security, and fiscal consequences of legal and illegal immigration into the United States.
Urban Institute: Immigrants & Immigration
The Urban Institute’s research on immigrants and immigration spans three interconnected domains: the role immigrants play in the economy, the challenges immigrants face in different communities, and immigrants’ access to the social safety net.
Institute for the Study of International Migration
The ISIM at Georgetown University provides balanced, interdisciplinary analysis of the issues raised by internal and cross-border movements of people around the world.
