Information Literacy Framework (ACRL)

Adopted by the ACRL in 2015, the IL Framework replaces the IL Standards (2000) and provides a 21st century approach for contextualizing and integrating IL within the curriculum.

There are six concepts in the IL Framework that anchor our approach to research and instruction:

  • Authority Is Constructed and Contextual
  • Information Creation is a Process
  • Information has Value
  • Research is Inquiry
  • Scholarship is Conversation
  • Searching is Strategic Exploration

Developed by a taskforce of the Association of College & Research Libraries in 2000, the standards represent early approaches to integration of IL within higher education.
