The Standardized World Income Inequality Database (SWIID)Provides comparable Gini indices of disposable and market income inequality for 192 countries for as many years as possible from 1960 to the present; it also includes information on absolute and relative redistribution (Note: see instructions below)
To access SWIID data:
- Follow the link above and click on the blue button that says "Download SWIID Version 6.1"
- Scroll down and download the file called "SWIIDv6_1.zip"
- Unzip the downloaded file.
- Open the .csv file called "swiid6_1_summary.csv." This should open in Excel or similar spreadsheet program.
- For variable definitions, open the file called "R_swidd.pdf." The definitions are found under the Getting Started section heading.
