Resource Sharing Operations

RESOURCE SHARING OPERATIONS NOTES:

Summer/Autumn 2024: Normal operations.

  • UR Owned Materials should be requested here: Item Retrieval Services
  • DUE DATES/BLOCKS IN ILLIAD: Materials are now due as marked on the material or on your ILLiad account. After three overdue notices you may be blocked from ordering more materials in ILLiad until items are returned. Please help us maintain our borrowing and lending relationships by returning overdue material!
  • Currently we do not allow proxy accounts for ILLiad users. For item security and to ensure that you get the items you need, you must pick items up yourself in-person at the Boatwright Information and Assistance Desk.
  • If you need another person to pick an item up on your behalf, such as a student administrative employee, colleague, or family member, you MUST receive approval ahead of time by emailing ill@richmond.edu with the name of the person who will be picking up your item. This must be done for each item you are having picked up. Items will not be released to the person picking up unless this name is on file.

Copyright: The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “Fair Use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Our department keeps track of borrowing requests via ILLiad and pays the required royalty fees when the requests exceed the "Rule of Five". This Rule of Five states that, for periodicals that are less than 5 years old, up to 5 articles from a single periodical may be borrowed in a calendar year. The payment is made through the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). We typically pay these fees quarterly.
