PARSONS MUSIC LIBRARY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: E

Policies and procedures for the staff of Parsons Music Library

Equipment

The Music Library has lots of equipment. Some can be used by everyone, but some is reserved for staff use only.

In public areas

Desktop computers: The desktop computer stations are meant for short-term use (catalog searching, printing, etc).  For long-term use, students/faculty/staff should check out a laptop. Non-UR visitors will need to request a guest login for all desktop computers.

RICOH Printer/Copier/Scanner: Located in the "nook" beyond the circulation desk.

  • Printing can be done only by current UR students/faculty/staff.  The printer's name on the network is BKRLIBMFD
  • Copying can be done by everyone.  UR faculty and staff can charge copying to their department by entering their ID number, but they first need to make arrangements with Linda; all others pay cash.  Refunds are available from the Campus Print Shop
  • Scanning to a USB drive can be done at no charge.

Flatbed (Zeta) scanner: Located in the "nook" beyond the circulation desk. A USB drive is needed to save images scanned with this device.  The images are of a higher quality than what you can get from the RICOH machine, and they can be cropped or resized.

Behind the Circulation Desk

  • Circulation computers (library staff and student employees only)
  • Student project computer on the small desk (library staff and student employees only)
  • Boom Box: We have one in the CD storage room that can play CDs (useful for play-alongs/recorded accompaniments) and has bluetooth.
  • Metronomes: in a box on the little desk behind the circ desk
  • Laptop computers (all current UR students/faculty/staff): Located in the laptop cart in the CD storage room.  The laptops get plugged in to charge when not in use.  External drives, needed to play CDs/DVDs, are also in the cart and can be checked out as well.
  • iPads (all current UR students/faculty/staff): Located in the laptop cart.  Only Linda and Melanie can check these out to patrons.
  • Digital Recorders: We have three H2 digital recorders in black cases in the CD storage room.  Two can be borrowed for two weeks (for class projects, etc) and one for four hours (for lessons, practice, etc).
  • Portable turntable: coming soon

In the Study Rooms

W201A has our audio playback equipment: LP turntable, CD player, cassette player.  Instructions are posted on the wall.

W201P has our video playback equipment: VHS player, laser disc player, wall-mounted monitor (connects to a laptop and can be used to watch DVDs).  Instructions are posted on the wall.

If someone needs to use the audio or video equipment in a study room, they get priority, even if the room is already occupied.  Please refer any concerns to Linda or Melanie.
